Introduction:

Join us for a summer of artistic growth, personal discovery, and creative rejuvenation; this creative retreat is for artists of all levels exploring creative boundaries.

Experiment with new techniques and cultivate your artistic vision - whether you choose to work in acrylics, oil or watercolour you will immerse yourself in your painting and learn how to develop your own style of painting, pushing your ideas forward to completion.

It’s ideal if you’re looking for less structure in learning and more time for personal development in a relaxed studio environment, focusing on a project or chosen subject matter that is important to you. You will be encouraged to gather source material and think creatively about various approaches to your subject and ways to achieve your goals.

This immersive retreat is ideal for those who crave artistic freedom, whilst still benefiting from essential technical guidance and inspiration.

Unlike traditional art classes, this course emphasises personal expression and self-guided exploration while providing essential technical support when needed. You will be given stimulating, individually tailored exercises in areas such as palette choices and mark making to help develop your painting skills and augment your technical choices.

  • You’ll be part of a design community in our creative studio culture; one that promotes discussion and collaboration, and encourages experimentation and the constant swapping of ideas.
  • With a limited class size you'll have the one-to-one attention you need to ensure you leave with the skills to continue developing your designs at home or work.
  • Benefit from learning with an experienced tutor who has established links to the profession and significant experience working in varied practices
  • On successful completion of the course you will receive a certificate of attendance.

What you’ll study

Dive into a world of colour, form, and self-expression in this relaxed yet enriching environment.

Whether you’re interested in abstraction, landscape, still life, or portraiture, you’ll find yourself immersed in the art school experience with plenty of time to reflect on your approach and improve your research, idea generation and planning processes.

Alongside one to one tuition, there will be essential daily group discussions, where artists are encouraged to give feedback and support. The week will be fluid, adjusting to different artists’ individual needs, but with a strong sense of shared experience.

During this course, you will have the opportunity to:

  • attend short lectures and group discussions about planning your painting
  • explore your creative and technical skills through individual and group exercises
  • work in the painting studio as well as sketch and find inspiration in the surrounding environments if appropriate
  • have dedicated time for introspection and reflection
  • practice working in a unique and liberating studio environment whilst getting to know other creative people
  • explore both urban and natural landscapes as sources of inspiration
  • be encouraged to try new techniques
  • have time with your tutor to discuss your personal creative goals and aspirations
  • become part of a summer painting community who wish to share ideas and support one another.

Further information on what you'll study

By the end of the course you’ll have a series of sketches, paintings in development and completed works, and the skills and knowledge to develop your work further.
