Introduction:
This course is aimed at those who are either graduating from our puppy course or for dog owners who want to train and socialise their teenage or adult dogs.
It will support dog owners in the education of their beloved companions and provide an environment to teach owners and dogs the right skills to fit well into society.
This course is based on evidence-based research on dog behaviour and cognitive development.
Course content
- This session will cover core training exercises you can use to help keep your dogs under control in most settings and learn to identify markers of progress in training
- This session will help you to react appropriately to the various challenges posed by reactive dogs, both in the house and during walks
- This session will cover appropriate introduction, greetings, play and managing arousal between dogs
- This session will focus on how to respond to things that can make our dogs scared
- This session will focus on how to handle walks in busy environments
- This session will discuss and allow you to practice exercises to help you become more confident in your training and take your skills to new heights
What you’ll study
The course will be divided into six weeks and each week will cover some core skills that the dogs are expected to learn in class.
The overall aim of this course is to have well socialised and confident dogs, with owners that are well versed and happy to tackle the challenges of teaching new habits to dogs.
How you’re taught
This short course will be taught in-person at our Brackenhurst Campus. It will include a mix of tutor demonstrations and practical exercises
There will be no more than seven dogs per class, to create a relaxed and comfortable environment for your dog to train in.
We have several courses running throughout the year.
What you'll gain
By the end of course, dog owners will be able to
- Understand dog body language and identify signs of arousal and frustration in dogs
- Identify signs of appropriate play and greeting between dogs
- Perform simple training techniques using both classical and operant conditioning
Campus and facilities
You will be based at our Brackenhurst Campus in Southwell.
Entry requirements
This short course is open to fully vaccinated teenage or adult dogs.
Please ensure that you bring your dogs vaccination certificates to the first class for our short course tutor to check before entering the class.

The fee for this course is £97.50. Payment is due at the time of booking.
