NTU welcomed Humber Polytechnic film students for hands-on workshops, Industry Week talks, and immersive learning in cutting-edge production spaces.
Nottingham Trent University (NTU) recently welcomed students from Humber Polytechnic’s Bachelor of Film and Media Production degree. The visit was part of the ongoing NTU-Humber partnership, which fosters collaboration through student projects, exchanges, and pathways into degree and master's programmes.
Now in its seventh year, the partnership continues to expand across a growing range of subject areas. The partnership reflects a shared commitment to fostering international learning experiences and preparing students for global careers in the creative industries.
During their visit, students from Humber Polytechnic participated in bespoke film-focused workshops and attended NTU’s annual Industry Week, an event that brings together industry professionals to share insights and expertise.
They had the opportunity to sit in on industry talks by Derry Shillitto and Phoebe Boateng, gaining valuable perspectives on filmmaking and career pathways. In addition, the students participated in a practical session on filming a “Oner” (a single continuous take) and gained hands-on experience in NTU’s state-of-the-art Virtual Production studio in the new Design and Digital Arts building.

Humber Polytechnic and NTU students came together for a special Virtual Production workshop
The Virtual Production workshop replicated a real film shoot, with students stepping into crew roles to produce a short scene featuring actors and a post-apocalyptic backdrop. This immersive session introduced them to advanced film techniques and professional workflows in an international setting.
Beyond the technical workshops, the visiting students had the chance to connect with NTU film students, exchange ideas, and experience life on campus. The Nottingham School of Art & Design’s industry-standard facilities were key highlights for the visitors.
"Humber’s student trip to NTU has been wonderful. We hope this is the beginning of a long collaboration between our institutions in Film, Media, Digital Arts, and Design," shared Susan Murray, Programme Co-ordinator for Humber’s Bachelor of Film and Media Production.
This visit further strengthened ties between NTU and Humber Polytechnic, reinforcing a shared commitment to global collaboration in creative education. As the partnership continues to expand, future initiatives aim to bring even more opportunities for students to engage in international learning experiences and industry-focused projects.
Spending time at NTU has been amazing! We’ve had the chance to explore the campus and the city, and to interact with fellow film students. The NTU Global team has been so welcoming and even made us an English afternoon tea.
