Members of NTU Global and BA (Hons) Product Design participated in the British Council’s inaugural Pop-up Study UK exhibition in Malaysia from 20 – 23 February 2025.

A showcase of the UK’s accomplishments in education, research, and innovation, the exhibition at the Sunway Pyramid shopping mall highlighted the strengths of the UK’s higher education sector, with a particular focus on key subject areas, including Health, Sports, Engineering & Technology, and Art & Design.

With a dynamic mix of static displays, hands-on exhibits, and interactive experiences, the NTU stand provided an engaging platform to showcase student work from the School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment’s International Design Studio COIL project.

This bi-annual initiative fosters cross-cultural collaboration by bringing together BA Product Design students and their peers from a range of international institutions, including Yonsei University (South Korea), Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences (Netherlands), Strate School of Design (France), and Polytechnic University of Milan (Italy). Through this global partnership, students explore new design perspectives, tackle real-world challenges, and develop innovative solutions that reflect the diversity of international design thinking.

In addition to the exhibition, the event was further supported by a series of lectures and workshops. NTU’s contribution played a key role in engaging visitors with an interactive session that encouraged participants to explore the fundamentals of chair design through a hands-on creative experience. This provided a valuable opportunity for prospective applicants and industry professionals to gain insight into NTU’s approach to design education and its emphasis on practical, collaborative learning.

The event provided an excellent opportunity to reconnect with NTU’s existing partners in Kuala Lumpur, strengthening ties with institutions and organisations that share a commitment to global education and innovation. It also served as a platform for cultivating new collaborations, opening the door to future joint initiatives and industry partnerships.

The week concluded on a high note with an invitation to Royal Selangor Pewter’s 140th anniversary celebrations. This provided the NTU team with a fantastic opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions about potential future industry briefs, student projects, and future collaboration, making it a truly memorable and productive experience.
