Dhara Padhiar - Web & Digital Content Officer

At NTU, we reward hard work with the recognition it deserves. Dhara’s role at NTU has grown, she has been given more responsibility and access to training, which will enhance and expand her knowledge and understanding – providing her with the tools to perform her job to the best of her ability.

Personally, I think my journey at NTU has made it clear what I’m passionate about – content and user experience. NTU are also supporting me through a UX Design course to enhance my knowledge and understanding!

I’m the Web & Digital Content Officer in the Web & Digital Team and we sit within the CAMS department.

My role focuses on managing digital content, CMS training, analytics, accessibility, and digital best practice for our various digital platforms, which includes the intranets, the MyNTU app and the main website. I have a team of two who support me with this. As well as this, I have recently been mentoring a colleague from a different department to help improve their digital skills.

I started at NTU as a contractor in 2019, where I was employed to help launch the new colleague intranet. I initially applied for the role because the thought of taking on a new challenge in the Higher Education sector excited and intrigued me. I was particularly excited about launching a new website and being involved in all the different stages. I then became Intranet Officer and was made a permanent member of staff. In this role, I continued to manage the intranet and to launch the student intranet. Since then, my role expanded, I was given more responsibility and I’m now the Web & Digital Content Officer. Personally, I think my journey at NTU has made it clear what I’m passionate about – content and user experience. NTU are also supporting me through a UX Design course to enhance my knowledge and understanding.

What makes my job great is the variety of work that comes through – no two days are the same. One day I could be redesigning webpages and the next, I could be doing something completely different like analysing a campaign or an area of our website. I also think I’m very lucky to be able to work with so many departments across the University, who are always keen to work together to get the best outcome.  The people – my colleagues and our students are the best thing about working at NTU, we’ve got a diverse mix of experience and knowledge which is always great to tap into, and everyone is very supportive of each other.

The flexibility between home and office working is great and works for our team. As a digital team that receives a range of requests, we do need to keep our heads down and focussed on the task at hand – working from home allows us to do this. However, we still have the option to go into the office to collaborate and have workshops, which has been extremely helpful for some of my projects.

The support at NTU is very good. It’s accessible and there are plenty of tools and support options for everyone. Activities available to staff that I’ve been able to utilise are the weekly online gym sessions. These were great, especially during the first lockdown, they helped break up the day and keep me active.

NTU is a diverse University with so much to offer and there’s heaps of passion across the board, that’s why I think it’s a special place to work.
