Responsibility

NTU places a commitment to responsibility at the heart of our expectations on research practice. We provide a framework of resources and guidance to support researchers in living this out.

NTU is committed to responsible research and innovation as a vehicle for aligning our research with societal needs and values. We invest in a range of initiatives that support our research staff and doctoral candidates to pursue research and research activities responsibly:

NTU’s social responsibility is enshrined within our Embracing Sustainability and Net Zero Carbon Strategy. Through this, and the contribution of our safety and sustainability research, we are realising our ambition to be one of the most sustainable universities in the world, mobilising our transdisciplinary expertise and collaborative partnerships to provide solutions to global challenges.

The University recognises the value of responsibility extends beyond the practice of research and has made this a central pillar in its approach to research assessment.

All researchers involved in research either at or in the name of NTU are required to uphold the standards set out in the Code of Practice for Research, which is publicly available and subject to regular review and update. The University Open Research and Research Integrity Committee leads on managing the University’s approach to research integrity and provides support in the form of guidance and training for researchers to help them navigate their projects with integrity as a paramount consideration.

The University is a strong supporter of the Concordat on Research Integrity and has, since 2013/14, published an Annual Statement on Research Integrity.
