Role

David Walker is Principal Lecturer in Construction and the Built Environment for the School of Architecture, Design, and the Built Environment.

As a Principal Lecturer, David is responsible for the development and health of a range of undergraduate courses at NTU Mansfield with a strong a focus on the low-carbon skills agenda. He is the course leader for the HNC Future Homes Design and Construction within the Construction Management Group. This role includes regular liaison with both industry and professional institutions to ensure the courses are current and aligned with their expectations. David also teaches across several courses where his areas of specialisms are project management, sustainable construction technologies, AutoCAD, and Building Information Modelling (BIM).

Career overview

Prior to being Principal Lecturer, David was the Degree Apprenticeship Manager for the School of Architecture, Design and Built Environment, the School of Animal, Rural and Environmental Science and the School of Science and Technology since June 2017. His role was to develop and implement an Apprenticeship strategy and oversee the quality of provision for each school.

David has been developing, delivering and managing a range of work-based learning programmes in further and higher education for the last 20 years, with a particular focus on Architecture, Design and the Built Environment ranging from level 3 to level 6. This encompassed responsibility for all aspects of higher education provision including quality assurance and enhancement, HEFCE funding, curriculum development and validation, research and scholarship development, as well as significant partnership working with a range of universities and employers.

Prior to the role above David was a Construction Site Manager for a property development company who progressed via an apprenticeship programme. David is also an external examiner.
