Jamie Tinney teaches on the BA (Hons) Secondary Design and Technology Education, the BSc (Hons) Secondary Design and Technology Education and the PGCE Secondary Design and Technology Education lecturing student teachers intending to be Design and Technology teachers in Secondary schools.
Research areas
Jamie is a member of the Blended and eLearning and Teaching (BELT) Group.
Main areas of research and teaching:
- eLearning technologies
- Gamification - using computer game-play principles in a real life educational setting
- Teaching design and technology skills, especially in the use of computer aided design and manufacturing (CADCAM)
- Health and safety training in Design and Technology education.
External activity
Jamie also works as an eLearning Consultant at Nottingham City Council (Children and Families.) This role includes researching new learning technologies, and disseminating knowledge and skills to teaching staff and children in Nottingham, City schools.

Current projects
- A joint paper entitled 'Using ePortfolios to support trainee Design and Technology teachers in developing their subject knowledge' was submitted to the Pupils' Attitudes Towards Technology (PATT 26) Conference in Stockholm 2012.
- A presentation entitled 'Gamification - Encouraging and Rewarding Student Engagement.' was delivered at the Society for Research into Higher Education (SRHE) Newer Researchers Conference in Newport 2011. This ongoing project is an action research activity in the application of game-play mechanics in a specific non-game, educational setting. An aspect of this research was included in a paper at The Irish Symposium on Games-Based Learning in Waterford 2012.
