Ka Luk is Senior Lecturer and Course Leader for BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and Design. He helps coordinate the learning journey across all three years of the course, ensuring a cohesive and forward-thinking educational experience that meets both academic and industry expectations. Ka leads the final year Design Studio and Design Communication modules and act as the final year leader, supporting students through this pivotal stage of study and their preparation for life in the creative industry after graduation. He also organises the annual degree show, which celebrates students achievements and connects them with industry professionals. As Course Leader, Ka works closely with the academic team to review performance, drive improvements, and ensure the curriculum remains relevant to the evolving needs of the interior architecture profession.

Career overview

Ka began his professional career in architecture working on award-winning international projects with studios including Conran and Partners. Over the past decade, he has led the design and delivery of award-winning hospitality and residential projects across the UK, Europe, and New Zealand - from boutique hotels to high-end housing developments. Ka's work has consistently explored the intersection of architecture, human experience, and identity, often guiding projects through key RIBA stages. Building on this foundation, he transitioned into higher education and is now Senior Lecturer and Course Leader for BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and Design at Nottingham Trent University. Ka leads the final-year Design Studio and Design Communication modules while coordinating the academic journey across all years of the course. His practice-based insight informs a teaching approach that is both creatively ambitious and industry-relevant, preparing students to engage critically and professionally with the future of interior architecture and creative practice.

Research areas

Ka's research interests lie at the intersection of interior architecture, narrative environments, and the role of memory, identity, and cultural meaning in spatial design. He is particularly interested in how interior architecture can respond to shifting societal values and future imaginaries, often explored through speculative and critical design approaches. Previously, in professional practice, he explored these themes through residential and hospitality projects - investigating how materiality, atmosphere, and user experience contribute to meaningful spatial narratives. In the academic context, his research focuses on design pedagogy, with particular interest in studio culture, interdisciplinary collaboration, and supporting students in navigating the evolving landscape of creative practice.
