Role

Current areas of teaching and interest are generative art works and the application of motion capture. Another area of interest is the development of appropriate platforms for the display and exhibition of moving image work, particularly student work.

Previous academic roles have also included the course leadership of MA Interaction Design, MA Puppetry and Digital Animation, MA Design for Film, Television & Events and MA Film Practice.

In addition, David currently supervises postgraduate students and projects in areas of research interest.

Research areas

Dr David Downes’ areas of interest are both intra and cross disciplinary.
Examples of research have included digital ‘stained’ glass, interactive environments and generative animation.
An active area of sustained interest and research is X-ray systems and imaging processing, in particular for security and other applications. David is a member of the Imaging Science Group.
