Role

Ellie is the Course Leader for the BA Illustration. Ellie is responsible for overseeing the course and contributes to all levels, both in the studio and tutorials. She is a personal and academic tutor in Year 2 and Year 3

Career overview

Ellie has been an educator, teaching at undergraduate level for over 25 years, and has taught a variety of creative subjects, such as graphic design, printmaking, fine art, interior design, and illustration. Ellie’s specialism lies in image making and printmaking and she is particularly interested in sustainable practice and how analogue approaches when working creatively affect mental health.

She has also worked for a graphic design studio where she was responsible for overseeing print and production. Three-dimensional skills evolved when working as an architectural model maker producing scale models for national and international clients.

Research areas

Ellie is currently in the process of researching the relationship between analogue and digital practice within the context of printmaking and how new technologies can be fused with more traditional techniques.

External activity

Encouraging students to create work that lives in the real world is Ellie’s drive. Ellie has forged relationships with local galleries such as the Djanogly, Nottingham Castle, and the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. Working at NTU, she has developed opportunities for students to experience live projects, collaborating with both staff and students from different schools of the university, to develop meaningful projects and exhibit work in professional spaces
