Joe is lecturer for game design and presentation and also helps students with their communication skills and confidence for speaking in front of other people.
He brings an insight into the history of many mechanics and encourages creativity.
He also brings an insight into the games industry as he is still actively part of it.
Career overview
Joe Dickens has curated the National Videogame Museum he creates exhibitions, presentations and events. He Has worked with Sumo and Boneloaf with the creation of videogames.
Joe is an event and venue manager, educator, designer, comedian and games developer. Joe created the videogame comedy crossover show ‘Gamer, Gamer’, which led to a regular program of local videogames events, educational shows and talks.
Joe has worked with a number of regional organisations to develop a strong gaming community, in 2017 as part of a team he won an award at Hack24 – a twenty-four hour coding challenge.
He is also an avid collector and researcher of rare and unusual videogames ephemera, arcade machines, and peripherals with an interest in preservation and restoration of gaming hardware collections.
He has also written and directed shows for YouTubers and comedians which have had sell out tours around the world.
Research areas
Joe has worked with The National Videogame Museum & Ritsumaken University in Kyoto to create videogame exhibitions about videogame history.
He is currently a researcher for publications in development.
