Role
As Senior Lecturer and Course Leader for the FdA and BA (Hons) Music Performance programmes at Nottingham Trent University, within the Nottingham School of Art and Design, I oversee curriculum design, delivery, and development. My responsibilities include managing a team of subject lecturers, planning effective course delivery, and ensuring alignment with institutional strategy and industry trends. I am passionate about inclusive and inspirational learning, and I work closely with students and staff to foster a creative and supportive educational environment.
Career overview
Before joining NTU, I held a variety of roles across education, media, and the creative arts. I have over 20 years of experience in education and curriculum development, having worked as a tutor, lecturer, and course leader in music, media, and games production. I have also worked extensively as a musician, sound engineer and music producer, collaborating with artists, educators, and youth organisations. My work has consistently focused on inclusion, innovation and community engagement.
Research areas
While not currently research-active in a traditional academic sense, my work is deeply informed by practice-based research in music performance, production, and education. I am particularly interested in inclusive pedagogies, creative collaboration, and the evolving landscape of the music industry. My MA in Music Industry Enterprise (in progress) supports this ongoing inquiry. My current areas of focus are authenticity and integrity as creative practitioners.
External activity
Alongside my academic work, I maintain an active career as a musician and producer. I have contributed as a performer, songwriter, and collaborator on numerous releases across a range of genres, including projects with JR Harbidge, Melanie Pegge, birchbones and Simon Klein. My production and engineering credits span over a decade and include work with emerging and established artists such as Eleanor Kate, Drive Through Hazy, Cam Mannix, and Fakers. This ongoing professional engagement informs my delivery and research, bridging music practice with academic inquiry.
Sponsors and collaborators
I have collaborated with a wide range of artists, producers, and educators across the UK and Canada. My work has included partnerships with youth services, community arts organisations, and independent studios. I am always open to new collaborations that align with my values of inclusion, creativity and community.
Press expertise
Areas of expertise include music performance, music production, creative education, and the music industry. I can speak on topics such as inclusive teaching practices, curriculum design, and the intersection of music and media.
