Role
Dr Ophélie Castellani is a Lecturer in French and Linguistics. She currently leads and teaches French Stages 1, 2, 3 and 6 for the University Language Programme (ULP).
Career overview
Ophélie holds a background in Anglophone literature, linguistics, and history from Bordeaux Montaigne University (France) and completed her PhD in sociolinguistics at Nottingham Trent University in 2023.Prior to her doctoral studies, Ophélie taught English and French as foreign languages to secondary school and university students, both in France and England.
Since 2020, she has taught a number of modules at NTU in French, linguistics and history, and supervised dissertations in French studies. She joined NILIC permanently in 2023, where she teaches and leads several French modules for the University Language Programme.
Research areas
For her PhD thesis, Ophélie conducted research on the impact of Brexit on French migrants’ language habits and attitudes in England. In addition, she contributed as a research assistant to projects about linguistics discrimination and exclusion, and the influence of limited English proficiency on health outcomes. Her areas of interest encompass linguistic discrimination, language attitudes, minority languages, language attrition, translanguaging and multilingualism.
