Role
Hoi joined Nottingham Trent University in 2022 as a Senior Lecturer.
His primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate modules, including:
- ECON22262 Intermediate Macroeconomics: Hoi teaches this with another colleague as both module lecturer and tutor. He provides 50% of the teaching materials and contributes 60% questions in the final assessment.
- BUSI12340 Economic and Data Analysis for Management: Hoi is a tutor responsible for two seminar groups.
- BUSI32629 Research Project (Economics): Hoi is a supervisor of nine Level 6 students. He provides guidance and advice to ten students in writing their research papers and is responsible for grading their work.
- INTB32715 NBS International Placement Experience: Hoi is an international experience contact tutor. Part of this work involves connecting eight undergraduate students and meeting them throughout their international experience period. He provides both formative and summative feedback on assessments.
- BUSI22862 Financial Markets, Institutions and Services: Hoi co-teaches this with another colleague as both the module lecturer and a tutor. He provides 50% of the teaching materials and contributes 50% questions in the final assessment.
Additional responsibilities
Since 2024-25, Hoi has been appointed to the Assistant Course Leader (Level 5 Economics) role. He assists the Course Leader of Economics in reaching out to all Level 5 Economics students. Through this, he helps conduct course meetings, graduate series sessions, and liaises with Level 5 course tutors.
Career overview
Before joining NTU, Hoi worked for several years in the Department of Economics and Finance at the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (formerly Hang Seng Management College). During his time there, he taught a range of modules in both Economics and Finance.
Research areas
Hoi's research interests include the property market, macroeconomic issues, the energy market, and institutional economics.
His interest in the property market began during his PhD studies, where he wrote a dissertation on real estate bubbles, comparing the housing markets in Hong Kong and Japan. Subsequently, he had the opportunity to conduct research in the energy market.
At present, his research focuses on analysing economic performance through the lens of institutional change.
