Role

Ian is a Principal Lecturer in the Department of Marketing, and is the Course Leader for the BA (Hons.) International Business suite of degrees. Ian is the module leader on the International Tourism: Sustainability, Development and Impact, and Developing Professional Impact modules. He teaches on the Personal and Academic Development module and supervises Research Projects at undergraduate level, and was previously the module leader on the postgraduate Principles of Marketing module in which he introduced an online business simulation. He also has experience of supervising postgraduate applied consultancy projects

As part of his role as a Principal Lecturer role within the Marketing Department, Ian line manages a small team of marketing lecturers, providing support and guidance. He also conducts external examiner work..

Career overview

Ian has over 25 years of experience working in Further and Higher Education. Prior to this, he worked in management roles in a number of hospitality business within the UK, and spent one and a half years working for a number of major global hotel brands in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Research areas

Ian completed an MRes in Sport Science in 2010, and carried out research into the effects of an inspiratory muscle warm-up on cycling time trial performance. He is currently undertaking research for his PhD into creating a typology of day cycle tourists: using the Peak District National Park as a case study.
