From 2009 to 2010, he was part of a European consultancy firm in Bangladesh, helping businesses become more sustainable, profitable, and socially responsible. His work involved consulting local manufacturing units on sustainable practices and conducting field research that led to the publication of the first-ever bilingual sustainability guidebook for entrepreneurs in Bangladesh.

Research areas
Hasan's research is interdisciplinary, drawing on insights from (environmental) sociology, psychology, management, and development studies to understand how organisations and governments respond to complex sustainability challenges in different institutional contexts. Recent works have focused on three main areas:
- Integration of public (and planetary) health outcomes in urban development practice in England.
- (Environmental) sustainability and ethics in small-scale businesses in developing countries.
- Challenges of cross-disciplinary research in academia.
His work has informed policy both in the UK and internationally and has appeared in prestigious journals such as Business & Society; Journal of Management Inquiry; Environment and Planning C: Politics and Space; Environmental Sociology; Local Environment; Journal of Urban Affairs; Business Ethics, the Environment and Responsibility (formerly Business Ethics: A European Review); Futures; Health & Place; International Journal of Qualitative Methods; and Cities & Health, among others, as well as in edited volumes by leading scholars in sustainability and business ethics.
Hasan has received numerous awards and small-scale fundings for research excellence, including the Dean’s Scholar Award from Royal Holloway, University of London; the ‘Most Cited Paper’ award from 'Business Strategy & Development'; the Santander Universities Research Grant; the Helen Shackleton Fund; the CSR Management Scholarship from HSBA Hamburg School of Business Administration; Research Development Fund (twice) from the University of Northampton; and a PhD Scholarship from the University of Manchester (which he did not take up).
He is Associate Editor of 'Environment, Development and Sustainability' (Springer) and on the Editorial Review Board of the 'International Journal of Qualitative Methods' (Sage).
