Role

Nehal is the Deputy Head of Department of Management. In his role he works closely with the Head of Department to develop and implement strategies in achieving the Department’s Teaching, Learning, Research and Enterprise objectives. He also leads, supports and liaises with the wider academic team in the areas of workload planning, recruitment, staff appraisals and teaching observations.

Career overview

Before joining Nottingham Business School, Nehal was the Course Director for the UG Business and Management & Pathways (Analytics, Enterprise, Finance, Law, Leadership and Marketing) the largest UG course comprising 1500+ students and operating in five countries of the world. At Leeds Beckett University Nehal had successfully launched the different pathways in the Business & Management Program (first in the region) and had the success of achieving excellent NSS scores for seven consecutive years winning different awards in the areas of Personal Tutor, Course Leadership and in Enhancing the Student Academic Journey and Learning Experience. Nehal was also the Academic Coordinator of the Business Strategy, Operations and Enterprise Subject Group of Leeds Business School.

Nehal graduated with an Honours and Master’s in Finance from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh where he joined as a Lecturer in 1999. He did his Second Master’s in MIS from USA as a Fulbright Scholar in 2003. Nehal completed his PhD from UK in 2013. Before joining the academia in 1999, Nehal worked in the Corporate Finance Division of Standard Chartered Bank and HSBC Bank.

Research areas

Nehal holds a PhD in Strategic Management and Finance. He continues to publish in renowned journals, contribute to book chapters and present in different conferences in the areas of Finance, Strategic Management, Teaching & Learning and Leadership. He has a special interest in Race Equality Charter and Decolonisation of Curriculum in the HE sector and continues to read and research along in these areas.

He has successfully supervised 2 PhD and 1 DBA student to completion and acted as both Internal and External Examiners to PhD and DBA candidates in various Universities in UK and Australia.

External activity

Nehal has vast experience of Charing Programme Validation Events both in the UK and Abroad. He is a Certified Business and Management educator (CMBE) with the Chartered Association of Business School (CABS), an Academic Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). Member of the University Forum for Human Resource Development (UFHRD), a Senior Fellow of Advance HE and experienced External Examiner of various UG and PG Business Courses in UK HE.

Nehal is also a Certified MBTi (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator I and II) and a Certified Team Management Profile (TMSDi) Facilitator and Trainer.
