Role

Nelly is a Lecturer in Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour at Nottingham Business School. Additionally, she serves as the Assistant Course Leader for the Joint Honours Business Management and Human Resources undergraduate program and as an academic mentor for Level 4 students.

In her role as a module leader, she oversees Level 4 Professional and Academic Development (PAD) and co-leads Level 5 Exploring Human Resources Management (EHRM).

As an Assistant Course Leader (ACL), she supports the Course Leader (CL) in shaping the curriculum, assessment strategy, and course features, including liaising with relevant professional bodies. She collaborates with module leaders and other key stakeholders to enhance student progression and attainment.

Her responsibilities also include working with course tutors to monitor student engagement and attendance, utilizing relevant processes to flag any concerns. She actively seeks student feedback, identifies opportunities for improvement, and supports their sense of community and overall student experience, including during induction and transition periods.

Career overview

Prior to joining Nottingham Trent University, Nelly held academic positions at a federal university in Nigeria, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (MOUAU). There, Nelly taught undergraduate students and acted as a module leader for various HRM and management modules.

Nelly is passionate about transferring knowledge through mentoring and coaching students at Nottingham Business School. Before joining academia, Nelly worked as a Training Coordinator and HR consultant with private and non-governmental organisations in both Africa and the UK.

Research areas

Nelly's PhD research explored the impact of work-family conflict on workplace safety and employee well-being. A case study of the Nigerian oil and gas offshore staff. This thesis is supervised by Dr. Angela Santos and Dr. Jain Aditya.

Specifically, Nelly's research interests include:

  • Job-resource demand and well-being.
  • Job demand as psychosocial risk.
  • Supervisors’ behaviour and Well-being.
  • Promoting work-family balance.

External activity

Nelly is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK. She is also an Associate Member of the European Association of Work and Organizational Psychology (EAWOP), an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), a Graduate Member of the British Psychological Society (BPS), and a Student Member of the European Academy of Occupational Health Psychology (EAOHP).
