Role
Dr Neslihan Kahyalar is a Senior Lecturer in Economics. She obtained her PhD in Economics from Swansea University.
Neslihan leads the Economics in Action module and teaches a wide range of subjects, including Microeconomics, Contemporary Economic Perspectives, and Quantitative Methods. Her teaching approach integrates both traditional and behavioural perspectives, encouraging students to explore how psychological and social factors influence economic decision-making.
In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she supervises undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations and PhD projects, guiding students in developing rigorous analytical and research skills.
Research areas
Neslihan’s current research mainly focuses on underground and informal economies, analysing their structure, causes, and policy implications. She also works in development economics, focusing on areas such as foreign direct investment (FDI), financial and economic crises, and their broader economic impacts.
Additionally, her research includes labour economics, covering labour market dynamics, wage gaps, and the economic aspects of migration, refugees, and asylum seekers. Her work aims to provide insights into how these factors influence economic resilience, social inclusion, and sustainable development growth.
