Saurabh Jain

Senior Lecturer

Nottingham Business School

Role

Saurabh is a Senior Lecturer in Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour at Nottingham Trent University, based within Nottingham Business School. His role integrates teaching, module leadership, course-level student support, and curriculum and assessment development, alongside scholarship that enhances learning and supports student success across the undergraduate portfolio.

Saurabh teaches through lectures, seminars, and skills-focused workshops that help students connect academic theory with contemporary organisational practice. His teaching is research-informed and inclusive, with a strong emphasis on employability and professional capability. He supports students in building a robust grounding in HRM and organisational behaviour, while developing transferable skills such as critical reading, evidence-based decision making, academic writing, confident presentation, constructive teamwork, and reflective practice. He encourages students to engage with evidence, challenge assumptions, and communicate their ideas clearly for different audiences.

As Module Leader for Human Resource Development (UG Year 2) and the Applied Business Research Project (HR) (UG Year 3), Saurabh holds responsibility for module design, delivery, and continuous enhancement. His work includes aligning learning outcomes, teaching activities and assessment; coordinating delivery across teaching teams; ensuring academic standards and consistency; and monitoring engagement, attainment, and student feedback. He places strong importance on transparency in assessment expectations, timely communication, and developmental feedback that supports progression. He also designs learning resources and formative opportunities that help students build confidence ahead of summative assessment. Alongside his leadership responsibilities,

Saurabh co-teaches on Applied Professional Development (UG Year 2) and Comparative and International Management (UG Year 3). He also contributes as a seminar tutor on Foundations of Managing and Organisation (UG Year 1), Managing and Organising for Human Resource (UG Year 2), and People, Organisation and Society (UG Year 2). Across these modules, he uses guided discussions, case-based activities, and structured skills practice building students’ analytical confidence and their ability to apply theory to practice. He fosters supportive learning environments that encourage debate and help students reflect on the ethical and wellbeing implications of people management decisions.

Saurabh also serves as a Course Tutor for second year undergraduate students, offering academic guidance and pastoral signposting. In this role, he supports students in navigating progression requirements, managing workload, and developing effective study and wellbeing habits. He helps students reflect on feedback, set realistic goals, and sustain engagement throughout the year, particularly during assessment-intensive periods. Where challenges arise, he works proactively to identify issues early and connect students with appropriate support. In addition, he supervises undergraduate research projects, provides academic consultation, and contributes to assessment moderation to ensure fairness and reliability. He supports students’ transition into research by developing their confidence in enquiry, methods, and the communication of evidence-based findings.

Career overview

Saurabh joined Nottingham Business School as an Associate Lecturer in 2020 and progressed into a Lecturer role in 2023. Following the successful completion of his PGCLTHE, he was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2025. He has also held visiting lecturer responsibilities at Plymouth Marjon University and previously contributed to teaching and research at the University of Nottingham, where he completed his PhD in Occupational Health Psychology and Management.

Before moving into higher education, Saurabh gained substantial leadership and operational management experience within the hospitality sector. This professional background continues to shape his academic practice, ensuring his teaching remains applied, industry‑relevant, and closely aligned with the realities of people management in dynamic service environments. It also underpins his strong focus on student employability and his commitment to designing learning experiences that reflect contemporary professional expectations.

Research areas

Saurabh’s research spans occupational health psychology, human resource management, and organisational behaviour, to explore how work can be designed to help people truly thrive. He focusses on the dynamics of working conditions, employee wellbeing, and organisational performance, especially within hospitality and service-sector environments.

His key interests include:

  • Psychosocial working conditions, job design, and sustainable performance
  • Job demands–resources approach to engagement, wellbeing, and organisational outcomes
  • Evidence-based people management and leadership practices that support healthy workplaces
  • Wellbeing and performance in hospitality and service work

Alongside this, Saurabh is actively investigating the evolving impact of AI within his research framework, exploring how emerging technologies are reshaping not only workplace experiences but also practices and pedagogy across higher education. A key strand of this work focuses on authentic assessment in the context of AI-enabled learning. This has led to the development of a portfolio-style assessment approach, designed to strengthen authenticity, support skills development, and better evidence student learning over time. Saurabh is currently researching this further with the intention of developing a paper aimed at higher education practitioners.

External activity

Saurabh maintains a strong level of professional engagement that enriches both his teaching and scholarly work. He is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, a Full Member of the Institute of Hospitality, and a Fellow of Advance HE (FHEA).

Saurabh also contributes to the European Academy of Occupational Health Psychology (EAOHP), working with the conference team to support the planning and delivery of its biennial conference. In addition, he has been involved in international collaborative learning initiatives with I‑Shou University, focusing on themes such as diversity, leadership, and cross‑cultural student engagement.
