Dr Tamanna Dalwai is a Senior Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in the Department of Accounting and Finance within the Nottingham Business School.

She is currently teaching the following modules: Accounting and Finance for Managers, Governance, Ethics and Law, and Corporate Governance and Risk Management.

Career overview

Before joining Nottingham Trent University, Dr Tamanna was working in Muscat College, Oman for 15 years as an Assistant Professor and Deputy Director of Quality Assurance. She was delivering accounting and finance courses for diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in affiliation with University of Stirling, Universiti Malaysia Pahang and Scottish Qualification Authority.

She completed her PhD in 2015 from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and was also awarded as “Best Student Award” for International Business School UTM. During her PhD, she investigated the relationship between internal corporate governance mechanisms and firm performance of Gulf Cooperation Council Banks under the joint supervision of Dr Siti Zaleha Abdul Rasid and Dr Rohaida Basiruddin. She completed her MBA (finance and accounting) from California State University, East Bay. She is a gold medallist in her Bachelor for Commerce degree from Indira Gandhi National Open University, India. Dr Tamanna is an Associate Fellow of The Higher Education Academy UK.

Research areas

Dr Tamanna’s research interests are mainly in Corporate Governance, Intellectual Capital, Readability, Capital Structure, Earnings Management and Banking Sector.

She welcomes PhD proposals in the following areas:

External activity

Dr Tamanna is an adhoc reviewer for a range of academic journals such as, Applied Economic Letters, International Journal of Emerging Economies, Accounting Research Journal, Competitiveness Review, Asian Review of Accounting, Corporate Governance: The International Journal of Business in Society.

Dr Tamanna is the joint editor for the book, “Handbook of Banking and Finance in MENA Region” published by World Scientific Publishers in 2024.

Dr Tamanna is currently an investigator for the research project grant titled, “Examining the Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools for the Financial Sectors Sustainability” awarded by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, Oman. She has worked on three other research grants in the capacity of principal investigator and investigator.

Dr Tamanna has conducted several guest lectures and seminars for staff and students.
