Catherine Johnson is a Research Assistant working in the Immunology and Vaccine Development group in the John van Geest Cancer Research Centre.

Working under Dr Stephanie McArdle. Catherine is responsible for running Flow Cytometry, Immunohistochemistry and ELISA experiments.

In addition she assists the Lab Manager in keeping the labs organised and stocked and helps to train new staff and students.

Career overview

Catherine previously worked for OncImmune, a Nottingham University spin-off company. As part of the ELISA team Catherine worked on the development of a blood serum test for the detection of Breast Cancer.

Research areas

Catherine's work is currently focussed on the Immuno-Phenotyping of Prostate and Breast Cancer patients. We are looking for differences in the expression of regulatory T-cell (Treg) and Myeloid Derived Suppressor Cell (MDSC) markers between healthy controls, benign patients and patients with cancer. Catherine also carries out any Immunohistochemistry experiments required by the research centre.
