Fr Joe Wheat is NTU's Catholic Chaplain.
Career overview
Originally from Nottingham, Fr Joe was ordained priest in 2002 and has served in parish ministry, chaplaincies in school, prison and hospital, and as a director of a youth service. He also spent five years in senior leadership in the Diocese of Nottingham. He studied BA Theology at Heythrop College, University of London and then for his MA in Youth Work and Education at Kings College. A keen musician, Joe enjoys listening to an eclectic range of music, going to gigs and playing various instruments. He is also a keen and long-suffering season ticket holder at Nottingham Forest. As well as being chaplain to NTU and UoN, he is also Parish Priest of St Paul’s & St Mary’s, Lenton and Hyson Green.
Fr Joe’s role is to work with Chris, the Catholic Lay Chaplain, and other chaplaincy colleagues, to offer support to all students and staff, but particularly to be there for Catholic members of the NTU community. Chaplaincy offers pastoral support for faith and life, opportunities to come together to create community, pray together, socialise and, along with Catholic students from UoN, to form a strong university student community across the beautiful city of Nottingham.
