Role
Jessie Dipper is a BA Music Performance teacher, specialising in songwriting and independent release and management. She teaches the modules 'Your Industry', 'Performance Skills 2' and 'Creative Investigation'.
Career overview
Jessie has spent her professional career touring, recording and releasing music as an independent artist. She has worked in a variety of capacities as a performer and entrepreneur within digital communications, providing website design and social media management. She has worked across the world as a performer and songwriter, most recently in Nashville but has also participated in songwriting camps in Spain, Sweden, Norway and Morocco. She has also performed and written in Nigeria, Czech Republic, Sri Lanka, Uganda, New York, Texas and Romania. She dove into the world of academia through the pursuit of a Masters in Commercial Songwriting and Production with Tileyard Education, in partnership with NTU, and graduated in 2024 with a Distinction.
Research areas
Jessie's professional work currently revolves heavily in the releasing of new music following her last album ‘Hiraeth’ in November 2024. This body of work was part of her final research project for her Masters, with a specific focus towards ethnomusicology and the exploration of music through a commercial/folk lens, looking in on various cultures through collaboration and exploration. With a personal background living overseas, and having worked inter-culturally within her professional life through touring and event attending/speaking, she is interested in how culture and our belief systems are implied in art in the modern day, and how art (more specifically music) can be linked to that of another world experience that still feels familiar to the foreigner’s ear. Having explored some of these areas at a Masters level, Jessie's hope is to continue this work in developing the specifics around ethnomusicology and theology as it relates to commercial/popular music in the modern music industry with the desire to consider a PhD in some of these areas in the future.
External activity
Performing and touring with her band in various capacities. Currently in production for two projects to come out this year – one a solo acoustic vignettes EP, recording during her last trip to Nashville. The other a long awaited band project, reminiscent of her previous album ‘Sticky Floors’.
