Role

Dr Elisa Tonoli is a Lecturer in Molecular Bioscience in the Biosciences department.

Career overview

Dr Tonoli graduated from the University of Milan (Italy) with a BSc in Biological Sciences and MRes-equivalent in Molecular Biology. She worked as Research assistant for 3 years at the IRCCS Fatebenefratelli - National Centre for Alzheimer's and Mental Diseases (Brescia, Italy) and then completed a PhD in Neuroscience at Nottingham Trent University (2020).

Research areas

Dr Tonoli research interests focus on the role of extracellular vesicles (EVs) in physiology and pathology, especially in neurodegenerative disorders but also kidney fibrosis and cancer.

As a Research fellow, she was recently involved in a project aimed at identifying the EVs cargo responsible for Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs)-mediated neuroprotection, supported by both NTU (Health and Wellbeing Strategic Research Themes - Talent Fellowship Scheme) and Professor Tony Marmont philanthropy fund.

She also collaborated in a project supported by NTU and Mestag Therapeutics (a Cambridge-based company) focused on studying the role of EVs in relation to the phenomenon of immune evasion in cancer.

Since April 2023 she became a full time Lecturer in Molecular Bioscience on a Teaching and Scholarship path.
