Dr Hemantha Kodikara Arachchi is a Senior Lecturer in Embedded Systems and Electronic Engineering.

Career overview

Dr Kodikara Arachchi completed his BSc (Eng.) (Hons.) and MPhil Degrees in Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering at University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka in 1997 and 2000, respectively. He obtained a DEng degree in Telecommunication from Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand in 2004.

He joined NTU in January 2017 as a Senior Lecturer in Embedded Systems and Electronic Engineering. Prior to joining NTU, he was with Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Processing (CVSSP), University of Surrey from 2006 as a Research Fellow and promoted to a Senior Research Fellow in 2014. From 2004 to 2006, Dr Kodikara Arachchi was with Brunel University as a Research Fellow and from 1997 to 2000, he was with University of Moratuwa as a lecturer in Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering. His research has been funded by EC and EPSRC. He is a member of IEEE and IET.

Research areas

Dr Kodikara Arachchi’s research interests are in video coding and communication area. He has been working on video coding, adaptation, quality, and interaction. He has published over 90 papers in reputed journals and international conferences.

During his research career, he has engaged in a number of national and international funded research projects in various capacities. Recently concluded EC FP7 funded ACTION-TV was developed based on his solution for enabling interactive video services and he served as a co-investigator and the technical coordinator of the project. He also actively contributed to other FP7 funded research projects including DIOMEDES, MUSCADE, and VISNET-II.

External activity

Dr Kodikara Arachchi has served as a reviewer for a number of reputed international journals in his areas of research from various published including IEEE, IET, SPIE, Springer and Elsevier.

He has acted as a session chair and programme committee member of many international conferences and also organised special sessions in leading conferences.
He has also given invited talks internationally at a number of universities, workshops and conferences.
