Role

Joseph Ogar is a Lecturer in Chemistry for NTU’s School of Science and Technology.

Career overview

Joseph became a member of the academic staff of the Department of Chemistry, University of Calabar in 2013 after graduating from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 2010. He completed his master’s degree in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Calabar in 2016.

He joined Professor Neil Champness’ Group at the University of Nottingham in 2017 where he studied for his PhD in Chemistry and graduated in 2021. He has since undertaken two post-doctoral fellowships. He is currently working as a lecturer at Nottingham Trent University.

Research areas

Joseph's research interests include but are not limited to; the synthesis of redox-active ligands, utilising them to fabricate highly porous open framework materials. Joseph has also successfully designed a room-temperature method for making a metal-organic framework (MOF) with a huge potential for CO2 capture.

His research also involves synthesis of superconducting materials utilising various inorganic anions and bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene (BEDT-TTF) with the latter acting as the donor. Joseph has about a decade-long experience in X-ray crystallography as well as other analytical techniques including Resistivity measurement NMR, mass spectrometry, FT-IR, UV-vis spectroscopy, HPLC, GC-MS, electrochemistry, EPR, SEM, BET, amongst others.
