Role

Patrick Barber is Principal Lecturer for the Engineering provision at NTU’s Mansfield Centre. He teaches on the Engineering course cluster and is responsible for the development and delivery of courses.

Patrick represents the NTU Engineering department in several local, regional and national developments, such as the Advance Distribution and Manufacturing Centre (ADMC), Regional Fusion reactor bid, level 7 Robotics Apprenticeship path finder, and LLE pilot.

Career overview

Patrick has worked for NTU for over two years, setting up and running the NTU engineering provision at Mansfield. Before joining NTU he worked for the University of Derby in roles that included: Course Director, Deputy Head of Department and Acting Head of Department.

Research areas

Patrick conducts pedagogic research into the development and delivery of engineering curricula, looking closely at the teaching of engineering design. He successfully supervised a PhD in this area.

External activity

Patrick is currently chair of the Advanced Distribution and Manufacturing Centres Skills and Training committee. He has represented NTU on the L7 Robotics Apprenticeship pathfinder group.
