Role

My academic interest is in understanding how people translate ideas into meaningful utterances and why we (sometimes) fail to do so. I'm exploring this questions using writing timecourse methods and eye-tracking in experimental setups, using Bayesian data modelling. In particular I'm interested in how difficult with word spelling affects out ability to communicate meaning in language.

Currently I'm looking into expanding my research into the domain of biscriptuality -- knowledge of two writing systems or the acquisition of a second writing system -- and how it affects the written production of sentences. For academics that seek collaborations with a cross-linguistic focus or would like to discuss practical real-world applications of this work research (as my work is heavily focused on theory testing), please do reach out.

For students and non-students that are interested in conducting PhD research with me, please email an academic CV and a brief summary of your research interests to jens.roeser@ntu.ac.uk.

Research areas

Jens Roeser’s academic interests are models that provide answer about how people comprehend, produce and acquire language using keystroke logging, eye-tracking, and Bayesian data analysis. Current projects include the development of an understanding how difficulty with word spelling affects our ability to communicate meaning in language.
