Role
Maryam Pourzakarya is a PhD candidate and HP Lecturer at Nottingham Trent University in the School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment. She is also a researcher within the Cities and Communities research group in the School of Social Sciences at NTU.

Maryam has joined Nottingham Trent University to pursue a doctoral degree at the School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment, where her research focuses on understanding the role of culture-led regeneration and placemaking in improving quality of life through cultural spaces and creative activities at the local level. She holds a master’s degree in Revitalisation and Restoration of Historic Buildings and Cities from the University of Tehran, and a bachelor’s degree in Architecture. Prior to joining NTU, she worked as an Urban Regeneration Specialist at the General Directorate of Roads and Urban Development in Iran.

Maryam is a researcher with interests in cultural and creative industries (CCIs), cultural policy, and the ways in which local authorities can use cultural and creative practices to enhance urban quality of life. Her work also explores inclusive placemaking and culture-led regeneration strategies, particularly in relation to reducing spatial inequality and social exclusion. Additionally, she is expanding her expertise in spatial analysis and interdisciplinary fields such as creative tourism, urban amenities, and sustainability.
