Role
Melina is a Counselling Psychologist and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychology at Nottingham Trent University.
Melina has worked in the Communications industry for 25 years and has had clinical experience in intensive care inpatient and outpatient units, and in problematic internet use with clients diagnosed with gaming and gambling disorder. Melina's PhD thesis focused on perceived online challenges and harms and the assessment of distraction via smartphones. Melina is currently involved in psychoanalytic training with groups, children and families and conducts research in the field of gaming and social media.
Melina is a member of the International Gaming Research Unit, the Cyberpsychology and the Bullying and Aggressive Behaviours research groups.
Teaching: Developmental Psychology, Psychopathology, Family Psychology, Individual Differences, Academic Skills, supervises undergraduate and graduate students and co-runs the Digital Life Lab.
Research areas
Melina’s main research interests are the ongoing impact of technology on the individual and human relationships and the digital well-being of children and young people with a particular interest in interventions and prevention.
