Tom has been Coaching and Competition Manager at NTU since 2016 a role that includes multiple responsibilities and remits. These include to Develop, implement and effectively manage a coaching development programme and improve the provision of coaching at NTU. He also leads and Manages NTU’s sports teams’ participation in British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) competition while  overseeing multiple NTU Sport programs to contribute to our strategic goals. Tom also represents the University on a number of external groups and manages a number of internal and external partnerships.

Tom also represents the University on a number of external groups and manages a number of internal and external partnerships.

Career overview

Prior to working at NTU Tom has had an extensive career across multiple NGBs including British Canoeing and Badminton New Zealand, as well as local government organisations in various workforce development roles. Tom was previously working in coach/sport development and High-performance coaching in New Zealand, where he was National Head Coach for the Youth Olympic Games, and Continental (Oceania) Championships while sitting on various Performance and Development Boards. Tom currently sits on the BUCS Advisory board as East Midlands Staff Chair and was a graduate from Loughborough University with a BSc in Sport & Exercise Science and MSc in Marketing and Management.

External activity

Tom currently sits on the Badminton England Performance Advisory board, who’s role is to provide Board oversight on England Performance across multiple aspects of the organisation. Previously Tom has been Head Coach at Leicestershire Performance Centre. Tom still plays national level Badminton for Leicestershire where he is 1st Team Captain competing in the Premier tiered competition in England.  Prior to Coaching and then Coach development, Tom had a successful playing career gaining representative honours for England up to u23 level and career high of 4 in England and 140 World ranking (mixed doubles). Tom was European Universities Champion in 2008 and represented GB at the World University Championships.
