What to expect on the day
How the individual interview works
You will get time to talk to members of the veterinary nursing team. We are happy to answer any questions you may have regarding the course and university life. During the interview, you’ll be asked about your work experience in practice.
Make sure to submit your reference before the interview
Please obtain and submit at least one reference from your veterinary practice prior to your interview date. Please refer to your interview email for instructions on how to do this.
Our top tips
Make sure you prepare for the various elements of the day. This should include:
- prior research about the area of veterinary practice stipulated in your interview email
- practicing how you plan to express your knowledge and experience
- obtaining at least one reference from your veterinary practice and submitting prior to your interview date.
What happens after the interview
How we will decide whether to give you an offer
The criteria we will use to assess your performance on the interview day include:
- your ability to communicate effectively
- your knowledge of the veterinary nursing role and veterinary practice procedures
- your awareness of the veterinary nurse profession and your genuine enthusiasm for the role
- your exhibition of the qualities expected of you in the veterinary nursing profession
- passing the formal interview.
What happens if you are successful?
If you are successful, you will be offered a place on the course through the UCAS system.
What happens if you are not offered a place?
If you are not offered a place on this course then you may be offered an alternative course at NTU. You can request feedback on your interview to help you improve your performance in the future.
Just relax. It may be an interview but it is your chance to show how much you want to be on the course. The course lecturers are all very approachable and will help you feel at ease when you are there, but it’s handy to prepare answers for any standard university interview questions they might ask.

Useful information
Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons
The FdSc Veterinary Nursing course at NTU is accredited by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). This means that following completion of the course, and mandatory hours in practice, you will be eligible to become a registered veterinary nurse without taking further external examinations.
As part of the course, you will complete a portfolio of evidence – the Nursing Progress Log – within an approved veterinary training practice. This enables you to achieve the RCVS day one competencies and skills to start work as a veterinary nurse.
Fitness to practice
If successful in your interview and you choose to join us on the course, you will be required to complete mandatory day-one practical skills to graduate as a veterinary nurse.
