What extracurricular activities can I take part in?
Student trips
The School runs numerous trips throughout the year including visits to: London (Royal Courts of Justice, Supreme Court and Inns of Court), Lincoln Castle and Magna Carta, Manchester Crown Court, Nottingham Justice Museum as well as a visit to the Caves and Nottingham Crown Court.
Student societies
Nottingham Trent Students' Union (NTSU) has a number of Law-specific societies including: NLS LEX Law Society, Commercial Law Society, Space Law Society and the Mooter's Guild. There are also many non-law specific societies which you could join, find out more by visiting the NTSU website.
Summer schools
NLS runs a number of annual International Summer Schools. This has previously included trips to Geneva, with visits to the United Nations, International Committee of the Red Cross and World Trade Organization and Berlin, with visits to the Reichstag and Sachsenhausen Memorial Museum.
Volunteering
During your time at NLS you can volunteer at NLS Legal, our fully regulated on-campus teaching law firm. There is also the opportunity to assist Support Through Court, a virtual service for people going through court without representation.

Extracurricular activities shape well-rounded individuals as well as exceptional professionals equipped with a versatile skill set that employers are looking for. Taking part in these activities is an excellent way to develop and foster essential legal skills in a range of formal and informal settings.
All students are able to apply for extracurricular activities.
Trips and Summer Schools are open to all students. For some trips where numbers are particularly limited, priority is given to final year students.
Students can get involved extracurricular activities throughout the year.
NLS Legal runs sessions throughout the year, with two main sign-up points in term one and two.
Trips run in both terms one and two.
International Summer Schools run in July.
Funding is available for a number of activities including travel costs for extracurricular activities.
All trips (excluding the summer schools) are completely free to students.
