Computing facilities

From day one of your course, you will be actively engaged in using these computer science facilities for your learning and research.

Computing facilities

You'll have access to:

  • games console labs - where you can study a variety of software engineering techniques for games - from low level programming languages for fast-games to high level computer network environments for distributed games.
  • networking and security labs - home to specialist networking and communications equipment from a broad range of providers, giving you practical experience in a range of technologies.
  • a Human-Interactive technology lab - these specialist facilities contain a number of technologies involved in the study, planning and design of products and devices to improve and support human interaction and computers. The laboratory includes state-of-the-art stereo projection equipment as well as a dedicated final year project laboratory.

Specialist technology laboratories

To make sure you always have access to the equipment you need, the University has over ten specialist teaching laboratories and 350 workstations running Windows and Linux. Specialist software includes:

  • EnCase
  • 3D StudioMax
  • XNA Xbox development suite
  • The Adobe Creative Suite (Flash, After Effects, Photoshop)
  • The Unreal and Half-life Games Engines.
