Rider / Groom Academies

Nottingham Trent University (NTU) is committed to providing structured support to individuals enabling them to excel in both their academic and sporting careers and to provide opportunities for students that, without assistance, would not realise their full potential.

The Rider and Groom's Academy

The Rider's Academy started in 2013 with just one elite rider, and has now developed to ten riders including; four dressage Development Squad Riders and One Elite Dressage Rider, and four Development Squad Jump Riders and One Elite Jump Rider.

The Groom’s Academy has also developed over the years alongside the Rider Academy, to provide students who would like to pursue a career as a professional groom. Two elite grooms are selected and two development squad.

You will be expected to be ambassadors of the Equestrian Centre and university and attend open days, promotional events etc. as required

A few reasons why our academies exist are:

  • To raise the profile of riders and grooms at the Equestrian Centre.
  • To support talented riders and grooms to realise their potential whilst continuing their academic studies.
  • Develop potential research projects for the welfare and management of horses and the science of equitation.
