“As my A-levels didn’t go to plan, I came to NTU to have a look at the FdSc Animal Science course as an alternative option. The lecturers definitely swayed it for me. They were very involved and enthusiastic.

“First of all I studied the FdSc Animal Science course which I found very vocational and practical with real world application of the things we learnt. I then had the opportunity to top-up with the BSc (Hons) Animal Biology course, which I found more scientific and theoretical, preparing us to go into the animal industry.

“After I graduated from the course I continued to study an MSc in Animal Nutrition at The University of Nottingham and have now returned to NTU and Brackenhurst Campus to study for a PhD in Poultry Nutrition.

“Communication and writing skills are probably one of the biggest transferable skills I have taken away from my undergraduate degree. Lab skills are also transferable which is useful as I need them for my PhD and future career.

“Surprisingly, writing assignments was sometimes enjoyable, but my highlight has to be the amount of practical and laboratory work we did on the course. I would definitely recommend both the FdSc Animal Science and BSc (Hons) Animal Biology courses to future students. They were well rounded and a good first step to set up your career in the animal industry.

“I found the course tutors very supportive and friendly. They are always around to sit down and chat and give help when needed.

“Nottingham itself is a really student friendly city, there are lots of shops catering for students and lots of nights out too! It’s relatively easy to get around so there is always something new to be discovered.

“Whilst studying my undergraduate degree I played for NTU basketball. The sports teams are really involving and it is like having one big family.

“It didn’t take me long to settle in. The first few weeks can be a bit odd and do make you nervous, but after that Brackenhurst Campus was like a second home. Although, laundry doesn’t do itself…”
