More about Samantha
Why did you choose to study your course at NTU?
Brackenhurst NTU is a well-known, reputable university for the animal care/veterinary field with impressive educational results. Brackenhurst also has the most beautiful scenery.
What do you enjoy most about your course?
I enjoy being able to study in my own time whilst still working to deadlines. I particularly have a keen interest in anaesthesia and the subject area so far has been very informative and interesting.
How do you find your modules and what have you most enjoyed studying?
I have thoroughly enjoyed all modules but do have a particular interest in anaesthesia, that is where my passion lies - gaining knowledge to ensure future safety of our animal patients.
What do you think about the facilities available on your course and what do you use the most?
I use the online NOW room and I am particularly grateful for the online library - veterinary books can be pricey!
What do you think about Brackenhurst Campus? What do you get up to in your spare time?
Brackenhurst Campus is a beautiful place that gives a sense of belonging and admiration for the countryside, wildlife, and animals. I do not live onsite due to the nature of my course but I am sure that people who live onsite love staying there - some lovely vet nurses on my course completed the FdSc in Veterinary Nursing and have said they miss it so much once they graduated!
What is your top tip for someone considering studying/ living at Brackenhurst Campus?
Never be afraid to ask for help - all staff are amazing and very approachable.
Have you been involved in any placements, work experience or volunteering as part of your course? If so, what did you do and what did you achieve?
I have not had the opportunity as of yet to volunteer due to the nature of my schedule but I would advise students to take up as much volunteering as they can. This will cement their knowledge and reinforce learning.
Why would you recommend your course to someone considering studying it?
As a Veterinary Nurse it can be hard to fit in desires to improve your educational and practical knowledge. By doing the top-up degree, it has enabled me to satisfy my interests and set me up on the road to supporting future veterinary nurses from a teaching aspect.
What are your plans for after the course and how do you feel your course has/ will help you to achieve that goal?
I would very much like to continue in the field of teaching our future veterinary nurses, ensuring they keep up with up-to-date with knowledge and techniques ensuring animal safety and welfare in the veterinary field.
