More about Eve

BA (Hons) Costume Design and Making now known as BA (Hons) Design for Stage and Screen (Costume Design and Construction).

What made you choose to study at NTU?"On the day of my interview I had a really good feeling about the place. After being shown some project work from Year One students on the day of my interview, I felt like Costume Design and Making was the perfect course for me. If I hadn't got in the first time round, I would have definitely applied again the following year!"

What do you enjoy most about our Costume Design and Making course?"I have enjoyed the amount of new skills I have gained. I have learnt things in areas of costume that I never thought I would try. I loved the social side of the course too as everyone in our class got on well. It was nice having a sense of community within the class alongside the hard work you had to do."

Has the course included any guest lecturers from industry?"We have had so many amazing people come in to talk to us about their incredible careers and achievements. Whenever we had design briefs we had theatre directors come in and help us develop our ideas. This gave us the chance to experience what it would be like working with a real director.

"We had a guest speaker visit us called Marie-Jeanne Lecker. She is a costume designer for opera and seeing her work was really inspiring; it opened me up to the idea of designing for opera rather than just for film and television."

Have you completed any live projects?"A friend and I worked with Magenta Star, a company that run Christmas grottos around the country. We were asked to design costumes and make patterns for a number of characters which were then made for the 2014 Christmas grottos across the UK. It was a really good experience as it gave me an insight into what it would be like working for a client. It was also nice seeing something you've designed being made and utilised."

How have you found the course staff?"All the staff have been amazing. My tutors were so inspiring and I enjoyed every day working with them. I feel very lucky to have had such a great bunch of people teaching me. I feel like staff here really cares about you and wants you to do well."

What do you like about studying and living in Nottingham?"I really love Nottingham! There are loads of really good shops, clubs, pubs and bars and generally lots to do. I like how the city is not too big so I would always bump into people I know."

Why would you recommend studying Costume Design and Making at NTU?"It's the only course of its kind in the UK that offers 50% design and 50% making. The projects have been fun but have also pushed us into thinking differently and more creatively.

"For me, the tutors have been a very big part of my time on this course. They have been so inspiring and have really helped me develop as a designer and a maker and I hope they know how thankful I am. I'm really, really going to miss NTU!"
