More about Divya

Divya is currently a Project Manager at General Electric (GE), where she’s involved in managing end-to-end delivery for renewable energy projects across Europe and Asia.

How has your career developed since leaving NTU?

My year-long placement with GE was an enriching experience and landed me a full-time job with a Fortune 100 multinational company. This has been a highlight of my career and I am truly grateful to NTU for offering placements in their curriculum. Also, the modules and training helped me to grow and perform as a working individual.

Have there been challenges along the way and if so, how did you overcome them?

It was really difficult to crack the job application process and land a placement in the UK. I had to upgrade my skillset through relevant training sessions and seminars, networking to grow my professional contacts, reaching out to industry experts to get mentorship on market expectations, and continuous job applications – this was all part of the process I had to go through to gain a job.

What led you to choose the course you did at NTU?

NTU is one of the most well-known universities in the UK and was rated Gold by TEF for outstanding education and was also ranked Modern University of the year (2017/18). Another important reason was that NTU recognises students’ merit through various scholarships and study abroad programmes. Doing a postgraduate degree at NTU was definitely a transformational experience for me.

How has your experience at NTU shaped or helped you in your career?

NTU offers a diverse range of courses with live consultancy projects, study abroad programmes, intense classroom training and challenging assignments. The assistance offered by the faculty and mentors was very helpful in my completion of modules. There are various clubs to explore and develop student talents, ranging from literary to sports. The additional facilities such as student counselling, library resources and international student support are extremely useful as well.

Do you feel that studying at NTU was a worthwhile investment in terms of your career outcomes?

I am humbly obliged to have NTU provide me with a platform where I could hone up my professional skillset and move up the management ladder. The two years of my MBA journey have been a life changing experience – both the year in the classroom and the subsequent year on my placement.

What advice do you have for students and fellow graduates?

I would advise new students to opt for a placement experience to get valuable job experience. Also, please update your CV with NTU Employability team’s help – they can help you with a detailed cover letter addressing the organisation you are applying to. Register on all the main job portals, attend job fairs and focus on networking. Please upscale your LinkedIn profile by doing certificate courses and training, getting recommendations and endorsements from people you have worked with, and connecting with corporate leaders in your field.

What has been the highlight of your career or personal achievements to date?

I take pride in mentioning that I was awarded the Dean’s Scholarship of Academic Excellence by NTU and was able to do my MBA with a scholarship. I was also awarded the SRM Young Achiever’s Award at the university where I did my undergraduate degree, for outstanding achievement in a professional setup.

Where have you taken your advice and inspiration from?

My parents have always taught me to be persistent in life and strive for excellence. The zeal to outperform, stay positive and keep working hard to live the life of my dreams is something I have imbibed from them. They have been my inspiration as well as backbone during my days of struggle. I truly hope my parents would be proud to see my achievements, which would not have been possible without their support.
