I would say that I’m using my course to find the career that would best suit my skills. As I already enjoy my course my hope is that it will lead me to a career that can allow me to apply everything that I have learnt from my course and hopefully enjoy it just as much.

More about Israel

Tell us your name, where you are from and what course you are studying?

My name is Israel Mugore, I was born in London and my parents are from Malawi. I'm currently in my first year studying BA (Hons) Business Management and Marketing.

What made you choose to study in the UK and at NTU?

During my second year of A-level's I was still unsure whether University was what I wanted to do once I finished. However, a friend of mine who had already attended Nottingham Trent for a year advised me to visit the University on one of their open days. I visited two other Universities, but Nottingham Trent was the only one I felt I would genuinely enjoy attending. I really gravitated towards the beautiful city of Nottingham and all the people I met throughout my day in the University.

What were your first impressions during your first few days here?

At first, I was quite overwhelmed by the sheer number of people inside the University when trying to navigate my way to where my lectures and seminars were. Furthermore, I initially thought it would be difficult making new friends as it seemed everyone already had their friends, soon enough I learned that that could not have been further for the truth as everyone I spoke to was very accepting.

What do you enjoy most about studying at NTU?

If I can only choose one thing, what I enjoy most about studying at NTU is being able to study with my friends. I find it to be the most productive way of studying as it also helps with my teamwork and discussion skills. It also helps me to enjoy studying more as it has led to many great memories and has also helped me keep track of my studies.

Tell us about the facilities you use for your course.

As my course is to do with the study of business, all of my lessons are in the city campus. I would say that my favourite aspect of the campus is the Newton building, which is incredibly tall and provides a beautiful view over the city of Nottingham that I enjoy during my seminars. Not to mention all the places you can eat in the campus which is especially great after a long lecture.

What do you enjoy most about your course?

Personally, I enjoy the teamwork aspects of my course the most, primarily due to how it has allowed me to make great friends with people in my course. Additionally, I feel as if it has also helped my confidence in terms of working with others and in discussions which I view as a valuable skill.

What do you think about the support you have received on your course?

Being in my first year, I could not have asked for better support from my tutors and support staff as most things about university life are still quite new to me. However, I have never hesitated to ask for help as every time I have, someone has been able to guide me in the right direction from lecturers to fellow students.

Have you done any work-like experience or work placements as part of your studies?

As my course provides the option to do a work placement in my second year, I aspire to make the most of these opportunities as work experience can be valuable when it comes to finding a job in similar field.

Have you been involved in any live projects or exciting briefs?

My first group work task for my course was about how sustainable the restaurants are in Nottingham. I found this brief really fun, as it meant we got to explore the city as a group and talk to shop owners about their processes of how they supply their goods and discuss whether they were sustainable or not. This brief really helped me learn more about the city, which was great as I was still very new to it.

Would you say your course is relevant to the career you are considering?

I would say that I’m using my course to find the career that would best suit my skills. As I already enjoy my course my hope is that it will lead me to a career that can allow me to apply everything that I have learnt from my course and hopefully enjoy it just as much in the process.

What 3 words would you use to describe your experience at NTU?

Diverse, Challenging, Social.
