More about Jacob

Why did you choose NTU and your course?

"I selected NTU as it offered an interesting and insightful course in International Business which appealed to me as I want to pursue a career in business working on a global scale. NTU has some top-class facilities both in terms of education, and recreationally in terms of sports facilities. I knew upon visiting that this was the right place for me."

What has stood out about Nottingham Business School?

"Personally, I think one of the main things that stood out for me about Nottingham Business School was the people. I felt from very first interactions, with teaching staff on the open day, through to my final year of study that they really care about individuals and how you are progressing."

How would you rate the course facilities and why?

"NTU stood out for me when I visited the campus compared to other universities due to the top-class facilities on offer. This put me at ease choosing NTU as I felt the quality of education would be reflected which has been proved correct as you really feel like you are studying at a high tier institution."

What is your favourite thing about your course?

"One of the main reasons I chose to study International business was the prospect of experiencing another country through the placement year which gave me the opportunity to go live and study in Canada. The course has provided a broad understanding of global business and many interesting concepts within that I believe will place me in good stead for my career."

Can you tell us a bit about your placement?

"For my placement year I decided to combine both study abroad and a work placement. I had the opportunity to study at Brock University in Ontario Canada for a semester. This allowed me to experience another culture and make international connections. On my return to the UK I then undertook a placement at Arvato, a global outsourcing firm. I experienced working in sales, project management, and finance. Whilst even helped source PPE on behalf of the Government department of Health during the pandemic. Arvato has been a great employer and also invested in my future through upskilling in professional qualifications such as Prince 2 a project management qualification."

What three words would you use to describe Nottingham?

"Vibrant, friendly, immersive."

How have you found Nottingham as a student city?

"I think Nottingham has been a great place to be over the last few years as it is small enough to find your feet and get to know your surroundings but also big enough for there to be plenty to explore. Nottingham has an abundance of places to keep you busy during your time here from live sport, to bars and restaurants."

Did you find it easy to make friends at NTU?

"From my experience at NTU I found it easy to interact and make friends through my course and also through my accommodation which both offered ways to interact with fellow students. I also found joining the rugby team and the international business society easy ways to meet likeminded individuals."

What do you think of the support available at NTU?

"I cannot credit the staff at NTU enough. I have made full use of their help throughout my course in helping with my study abroad, placement and also assisting with assignments. I fully believe my performances academically would not be at the level they are today without their assistance."

What’s next for you after NTU?

"After NTU I hope to embark on a career working for a multinational organisation, in the immediate future I will be returning to the company I did my placement working in project management."

Has the employability team helped you plan for life beyond NTU?

"The employability team has highlighted to me the options I have available to me after graduation, their help has always been appreciated."
