More about Sanaa

Sanaa studied BA (Hons) Business Management and Entrepreneurship.

Why did you choose NTU and your course?

I chose NTU as it has a strong reputation for academic excellence, modern campus facilities, and the vibrant welcoming student community. The university is known for creating innovation and providing hands-on learning opportunities, which really appealed to me. There are many opportunities available whether that be from a personal level, professional level and/or just an academic level. I decided to study Business Management and Entrepreneurship because I’ve always been passionate about creating ideas and turning them into something impactful.

This course gives me the skills and knowledge to understand how businesses operate, while also encouraging creative thinking - perfect for someone who wants to start and grow their own venture in the future. It is more personal than other courses as you get to meet and work alongside clients from all walks of life- new start-ups, small-to-medium sized enterprises and larger organisations.

What has stood out about Nottingham Business School?

What really stood out to me about Nottingham Business School is how welcoming and homely it felt right from the start. Everyone—from students to staff—has been so supportive and approachable. It’s clear that people genuinely care, and the staff often go above and beyond to help, whether it’s with academic questions, personal support, or just general advice. There’s also a lot of help and resources available whenever you need them. You’re never left to figure things out on your own—everyone just wants to see you succeed and finish your degree feeling confident and supported. Even simple things like finding your way around the building are made easy, which really helps when you’re new. It’s a really positive and encouraging place to be.

My advice for future students at NBS is to make the most of the support available to you. The staff at NBS go above and beyond to help students succeed, so don’t hesitate to reach out if you need guidance, whether it’s academic advice or personal support.

How would you rate the course facilities and why?

I’d rate the course facilities highly. The lecture theatres and seminar rooms are modern, well-equipped, and create a great learning environment. There are plenty of spaces for group work, and the technology available—like interactive screens and access to online resources—really supports how we learn. What I also really appreciate is how everything is laid out in a student-friendly way. It’s easy to find what you need, whether that’s study areas, staff offices, or support services. The facilities definitely make it easier to stay focused, organised, and engaged with the course.

What is your favourite thing about your course?

My favourite thing about the course is how hands-on and practical it is. From the very beginning, we’ve been encouraged to apply what we learn to real-life situations, which makes everything feel much more 'real' and thought out. Instead of just memorising theories, we’re actually using them in group projects, business simulations, and case studies that reflect the kind of challenges we might face in the real world. This practical approach is what I value most because it’s helping us build the skills and confidence we’ll need for our future careers. Whether it's pitching ideas, working on business plans, or analysing companies, everything we do feels like a step closer to being fully prepared for when we take on similar roles after graduation. It’s a course that doesn’t just teach—you actually do, and that makes a big difference in how ready we feel for the workplace. The variety of modules also keeps things interesting, and there's a good balance between group work and individual projects. It’s helped me grow in confidence and develop skills I know I’ll actually use in the future. I love how NTU doesn't just throw us straight on the course and modules, instead, we build up our knowledge so that everyone is at the right pace and level!! One of the other reasons why I'm so glad to have picked NTU.

Have you had the option to personalise your course and experience at Nottingham Business School? How has this benefitted your studies?

Yes, I’ve definitely had the option to personalise my course, and it’s made a huge difference in my experience and development. One of the highlights was getting to choose between a traditional research project and the Sustainability in Enterprise Project (SIEP). I chose SIEP, and I’m so glad I did—it was one of the most eye-opening parts of my degree. It really helped me widen my perspective on what sustainability actually means in a business context. It’s not just about the environment—it’s about ethical decision-making, long-term value, and making a positive impact in all areas of a business. I found it incredibly engaging and relevant to the future of business.

I also had the opportunity to complete a digital internship with Mindless Academy, which was another amazing opportunity to apply what I was learning in a practical setting. It helped me develop key skills in marketing, content creation, and communicating important messages around social and environmental issues. It gave me more confidence and a better sense of direction in terms of my future career.

On top of that, I was originally on the 3-year course, then switched to 4 years to include a placement, and later moved back to the 3-year route due to unforeseen circumstances. I’m genuinely grateful that NTU made that process so smooth. The flexibility and support I received meant that the change didn’t negatively affect my degree, and I never felt like I was being left behind. Having the freedom to tailor my course around my goals and life situation has been one of the things I’ve appreciated most about my time at NTU.

Do you have any advice for future students on how they can make the most of their time at NBS?

My advice for future students at NBS is to make the most of the support available to you. The staff at NBS go above and beyond to help students succeed, so don’t hesitate to reach out if you need guidance, whether it’s academic advice or personal support. The environment is so encouraging, and you’re never really left on your own. Also, the flexibility in how you can personalise your course, whether that’s switching between course structures or choosing modules that match your interests, is a huge benefit—so take full advantage of that.

Another key advice is to stay curious and open to new experiences. University is a time to explore your interests, meet new people, and develop skills you might not expect to need. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone, whether it’s joining a society, taking part in a competition, or volunteering for a cause. It’s all about learning and growing, both inside and outside the uni. Finally, actively manage your time and balance your studies with extracurricular activities. University can get busy, so it’s important to plan ahead and stay organised. But at the same time, don’t forget to take breaks and enjoy the student experience. There are so many opportunities to get involved at NBS, whether it’s through networking events, guest lectures, you name it. These experiences are not only fun but can also broaden your perspective and help you build valuable connections for your future career.

Lively, diverse, historic!

How have you found Nottingham as a student city?

Nottingham is an amazing student city. It has a great balance of everything—there’s always something happening, whether it’s events, social activities, or just places to relax and unwind. The city is packed with student-friendly cafes, and restaurants, making it easy to meet up with friends or enjoy some downtime between classes. What I really appreciate is how everything is within reach, and it’s a city that’s built with students in mind. You also feel really connected to the wider community, with plenty of events that cater to both students and locals, so you always feel involved. Newton building is right at the heart of the city centre too!

They really go above and beyond to make sure you succeed. The student support services are good. I’ve found it reassuring to know that help is available whenever you need it. The Employability team are always organizing workshops, CV reviews, and networking events that help you get career-ready. They’ve given me good advice on internships, job opportunities, and how to present myself in a professional setting. I’ve felt supported in planning my future career path.

What's next for you after NTU?

After NTU, I’m excited to take the next steps in my career. I plan to build on the skills and experiences I’ve gained during my time here, particularly in business management and entrepreneurship.
