More about Priyanka

Why NTU?

What inspired you to study BA (Hons) Childhood and Psychology?

"My early interest in psychology was sparked by a fascination with how the mind works and influences behaviour. At the same time, I am deeply passionate about working with children and creating environments where they can thrive. By studying this subject, I believe in making a positive difference during these formative years and improving certain aspects of childhood experiences."

Why did you choose your course and NTU?

"I chose to study Childhood and Psychology because it perfectly combines my passion for understanding human behaviour with my ambition to support children's lives. Knowing that NTU is highly rated for preparing graduates for their future careers reassured me that I was making the right choice. The university's supportive environment and reputation for excellence in these fields have provided me with the ideal foundation to achieve my goals."

What’s your experience been like of your course so far?

"My experience on this course so far has been truly transformative, with each learning milestone offering new insights and invaluable rewards. A standout moment was the Nursery World trip, where I had the chance to hear inspiring speakers, explore innovative ideas, and network with professionals passionate about shaping childhood experiences. I have also loved meeting like-minded people – it has been wonderful to build friendships with those on a similar path. Each day brings the opportunity to learn something new and expand my understanding of both psychology and childhood development, whether it is diving into fresh topics or engaging in class debates that challenge my thinking."

Have you been involved in any projects or extra-curricular activities that have supplemented your studies run through NTU?

"I have been fortunate to engage in a variety of activities at NTU that have enriched my learning experience:

  • As a Student Mental Health Champion, I have been dedicated to supporting peers in various ways, beyond hosting wellbeing events, to promote positive mental health and create a supportive community.
  • I also volunteer in gardening through the NTU Global Lounge, which offers a relaxing and community-driven break from academics.
  • I am currently expanding my skills through the Digital Marketing Academy, an incredible opportunity to broaden my knowledge beyond my course.
  • On top of that, I attend events and lectures, like 'Intro to Peer Support Training,' which provide valuable insights and skills applicable across various areas of life and there is so much to choose from.
  • As a member of the British Sign Language Society, I am also developing my communication skills and learning a language that opens doors to new ways of connecting with others.

This is just a glimpse of the wide range of activities NTU offers – there is always something exciting to get involved in!"

What does Social Sciences mean to you?

"The drive to study Social Sciences comes from a deep desire to help others, especially children, and make a tangible impact on their lives and well-being. Engaging with people directly, understanding their challenges, and using that knowledge to bring about meaningful change."

On Placement...

Have you completed any work placements on your course?

"As part of my year 1 block placement, I worked as a Teaching Assistant at a nursery in Hucknall, Nottingham. This role provided me with valuable hands-on experience, something I had not had before starting, so it was a great way to begin my journey in working with children. Working closely with both the children and staff allowed me to contribute to a positive and engaging learning environment. Through the placement, I developed essential skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving, and gained a deeper understanding of child development. It was inspiring to see their progress and to play a role in creating an inclusive space for all children."

Do you have any memorable moments from your placement?

"My placement was filled with memorable moments like being called "Miss Carsane" by the children and singing/dancing with them, which brought both joy and nostalgia. I also formed strong connections with the staff, making the experience unforgettable. These relationships with both my mentor and colleagues will undoubtedly play a vital role in my career development and will continue to provide me with valuable benefits long after my placement."
