Your course
What inspired you to choose your course?
"I chose the Education and Professional Practice course because I was interested in how the course was delivered, starting with the Foundation Degree in Education and progressing to the top-up year to gain a BA. The Foundation Degree provided a solid grounding in educational theory, and the top-up year allowed me to deepen my understanding and skills in education. The combination of practical and theoretical learning offered by the course was a key factor in my decision to pursue this path."

What attracted you to study at the Mansfield Hub?
"Growing up in the Mansfield area, I was genuinely excited when NTU opened the new Hub in the community. Having the opportunity to study at a university in my hometown was a rewarding experience, as it allowed me to stay connected to the local area while pursuing my academic and professional goals."
What did you gain or achieve by being part of the NTU Mansfield community?
"Being part of the NTU Mansfield community gave me the chance to support the local education field, which was something I was passionate about. Throughout my course, I was able to engage with and contribute to local colleges and schools, helping to provide support to improve learning environments and outcomes for students in the area. This connection to local schools and organisations deepened my understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the education sector and gave me a sense of purpose in my work."
What distinguishes the Mansfield Hub from other study locations or campuses?
"What truly distinguishes the Mansfield Hub from other campuses is its strong focus on community engagement and student involvement in shaping the hub’s growth and development. As a relatively new site, NTU Mansfield actively sought feedback from current students to help influence the direction in which the site evolved. This emphasis on student input created a dynamic environment where we felt valued and heard, and it allowed us to contribute directly to the development of facilities and learning experiences.
Additionally, the Mansfield Hub’s commitment to supporting local education and fostering partnerships with the surrounding community set it apart. The hub not only provided academic support but also created opportunities for students to engage with local schools and educational organisations, contributing to meaningful, real-world impact."
Could you share any experiences or interactions at the Mansfield Hub that have been particularly impactful for you?
"A particularly memorable experience was participating in the Employability Challenge, where we were tasked with presenting opportunities to Nottingham-based youth and education businesses to show what Mansfield could offer if they expanded into the area. This project was a great opportunity to apply what I had learned throughout my course in a real-world context, and it was exciting to be part of an initiative that showcased the potential of Mansfield as a hub for educational development. It also helped me develop key skills in presentation, networking, and teamwork while highlighting the importance of collaboration between local businesses and educational institutions."
What was the best thing about being an NTU Mansfield student?
"The best thing about being an NTU Mansfield student was the sense of belonging and the strong sense of community. From the moment I started, I felt that I was part of something special. The smaller, more intimate setting of the Mansfield Hub allowed for closer connections with both peers and staff, making it easier to build relationships and receive personalised support. This tight-knit community not only made my academic journey feel more connected, but it also fostered a collaborative and supportive environment where I felt comfortable sharing ideas and seeking guidance when needed. Furthermore, the emphasis on the practical application of theory learnt in opportunities provided by the University within the local community was also great."
