I am going on to do a Masters degree in Politics and Public Policy once again here at NTU and I am beyond excited for this new journey I am about to embark on.

More about Charlotte

What inspired you to study your subject?

"From from my teenage years/ early adulthood I had a passion for learning more about the political systems in place and the inner workings of our government. Through doing this I realised just how many flaws were present, and I knew I wanted to do something that would make a difference and bring more equality to the society we live in."

Why did you choose your course and NTU?

"I was drawn to politics as not only did I have great interest in developing my knowledge of the subject, but also as I thought it would be a great pathway into the career in policy formulation and analysis that I wished to pursue.

I visited NTU at one of their open days while deciding where to base my further studies and I was pleasantly surprised to see how friendly and welcoming all the staff were, and how obvious it was to see real passion about the subject from those teaching it."

What’s your experience been like of your course so far? Can you pick out any highlights?

"The modules both compulsory and optional have always accounted for a wide range of interests and specifications to cater for all students, which I have always found to be excellent.

Once again, the staff are extremely helpful, and it has been an immense pleasure to learn and work alongside individuals with such great passion and knowledge of their subjects."

Have you been involved in any projects or extra-curricular activities that have supplemented your studies run through NTU?

"For the first year at university, I was a part of the British Sign Language society with the aim of being able to engage with more people and allow for my ideas to be more accessible."

What does Social Sciences mean to you?

"Social sciences to me are a look into a world that is so complex and being able to understand it from a scientific and behavioural perspective."

On Placement

Have you completed any work placements on your course?

"During my second year I completed a 90-hour placement-like experience with the faith and belief forum and took part in the Parliamentors Challenge. I worked alongside a team to create a pitch and a project briefing for an event to raise awareness for local issues within the city. My team came second in the challenge after the pitch which was a great accomplishment."

Do you have any memorable moments from your placement?

"I created posters for our event that we were pitching, and I handed out physical copies to the audience members which felt unique and allowed for the audience members to further engage."

What do you think of the support available from tutors and staff at NTU?

"The support at NTU has always been a positive experience. They have always been approachable and go out of their way to answer queries, make referrals, and support our academic and personal needs."

The Next Steps

What’s next for you after NTU?

"I am going on to do a Masters degree in Politics and Public Policy once again here at NTU and I am beyond excited for this new journey I am about to embark on."

How is NTU helping you to achieve your career goals?

"Not only are there amazing employability resources and support, the tutors also often send us emails regarding work and placement opportunities. Before university I had never heard of the Civil Service Fast Stream, however, upon hearing about it here, I plan to apply once I have finished my postgraduate studies."

What top tips would you give anyone thinking about studying your course at NTU?

"Take it day by day and do something you have a passion for. Always believe in yourself as anything is possible!"
