If you're currently studying at or graduated from NTU, you may be eligible for 20% off postgraduate tuition fees as part of our Alumni Discount.

Nottingham Trent University Alumni Discount

Starting between 1 September 2023 and 31 August 2024?

We’re happy to be able to offer a 20% discount to most current NTU students and Alumni, who are starting a course within the 2023/2024 academic year. If you want to study selected courses within Nottingham Law School, you may be eligible for their Postgraduate Taught Award Discount instead. Make sure you read the eligibility criteria at the bottom of the page for full details.

Please note that students eligible for the alumni discount can also apply for other scholarships and awards offered by Nottingham Trent University. Details of the range of available awards can be found here. As the alumni discount is not competitive and is given to all eligible students, students may be awarded up to one other named scholarship/award/tuition fee reduction (up to a maximum 50% tuition fee reduction) if they are successful in an application.

How to apply

If you are an NTU graduate, then you may be eligible for a 20% discount on postgraduate courses. This includes full-time, part-time, and online courses.

You will need to meet the eligibility criteria below and:

  • if you graduated from NTU prior to the 2017/18 academic cycle, have met the conditions, and accepted your offer, please send a copy of your graduation certificate and NTU ID number to NTU.scholarships@ntu.ac.uk with the subject title Alumni discount
  • if you graduated from NTU within the last 5 years, have met the conditions, and accepted your offer, the discount will automatically be applied at enrolment

The 2023/24 Nottingham Trent University Alumni Discount is open to all UK and International students who meet the eligibility criteria:

  1. You must have graduated with a qualifying academic award* from NTU and progressing onto an eligible postgraduate taught, postgraduate research (including PhDs), or professional course at NTU**.

    Or;

    You must be a final year NTU undergraduate student due to graduate with a qualifying academic award* and progressing onto an eligible postgraduate taught, postgraduate research (including PhDs), or professional course at NTU. See a list of excluded courses.

  2. If you graduated with a qualifying academic award* from NTU prior to the 2017/18 academic year, please provide a copy of your graduation certificate once you have met the conditions and accepted your offer. Please email a copy of your graduation certificate with the subject line Alumni discount and your NTU ID number to NTU.Scholarships@ntu.ac.uk before you enrol on your new course.
  3. If you graduated with a qualifying academic award* from NTU within the last 5 years you do not need to apply for the discount or provide your graduation certificate***. Provided you are eligible the discount will automatically be deducted from your fee prior to enrolment.
  4. Some Nottingham Law School courses are not eligible for the Alumni discount but may still be eligible for the Nottingham Law School professional courses alumni discount of up to £1,000. Please visit the Nottingham Law School fees and funding page for further information.
  5. Students who are fully sponsored by their employers or a professional body are not eligible for the Discount. Students who are partly sponsored and meet the eligibility criteria will have the Discount applied to the part of the fees which are not being paid for elsewhere.
  6. Students who have obtained a bursary or scholarship that covers 50% or more of their fees are not eligible for the discount.

*Eligible academic awards include: All BA; BEng, BSc, LLB, BArch, PG Dip, and PG Cert.

***NTU reserves the right to ask for a copy of your degree certificate(s) to validate eligibility.

  1. Students who have applied for a place on an eligible course that will be delivered on a modular basis must meet the above eligibility criteria and have graduated with an academic award* from NTU before enrolling on the first module of their course to be eligible for the Alumni discount. Where an eligible course is delivered on a modular basis, the Discount applies to the entire course fee and is not available on a module-by-module basis.
  2. Students progressing to or from courses that are validated by, but not taught by NTU are not eligible for the Alumni discount, except for Confetti students and students completing online (Wiley only) courses.
  3. Students who are fully sponsored (tuition fees paid for in full) by their employers or a professional body are not eligible to receive the Alumni discount.
  4. Students who are partly sponsored and who meet the above eligibility criteria for the Alumni discount will have the Discount applied to that part of the fees which is not being paid for elsewhere.
  5. If you graduated with a qualifying academic award* from NTU prior to the 2017/18 academic year, please provide a copy of your graduation certificate once you have met the conditions and accepted your offer. Please email a copy of your graduation certificate with the subject line Alumni discount and your NTU ID number to NTU.Scholarships@ntu.ac.uk before you enrol on your new course.
  6. If you graduated with a qualifying academic award* from NTU within the last 5 years you do not need to apply for the discount or provide your degree certificate. Provided you are eligible the discount will automatically be deducted from your fee before enrolment. Please note, the discount may be applied at any point up until the time you have fully enrolled onto your course and is not applied by a certain date in the year.
  7. If you are eligible to receive the Alumni discount and are awarded a scholarship or bursary from NTU, the Discount will be applied to your tuition fee after the scholarship amount has been deducted. The aggregate amount awarded will not exceed more than half the tuition fee.
  8. Students that have obtained a scholarship, bursary, or other fee reduction, which covers 50% or more of their fees, are not eligible for the Alumni discount on any remaining fee.
  9. The Alumni discount will only be applied once you accept and meet the conditions of your course offer and are eligible to enrol on the course.
  10. The Alumni discount is only available for students who have graduated from NTU with a qualifying academic award* and progressing onto an eligible postgraduate taught, postgraduate research, or professional course** in accordance with the eligibility criteria. Students progressing from one master’s degree onto another master’s degree will not be eligible for the Discount.
  11. Applicants due to enrol on a two-year full-time master’s course which incorporates a year-long work placement are eligible to receive the Alumni discount on their Year One tuition fee only.
  12. The Alumni discount is not transferable and may not be awarded if you choose to defer your entry to a different start date in a different academic year or if you choose to transfer to a different course at NTU which is not eligible for the Discount.
  13. A student will only receive the benefit of the Alumni discount once, regardless of the amount applied. If a student successfully completes an eligible course which has received the Discount and chooses to undertake another eligible course at NTU then the Discount will not be applied again.
  14. Students are only eligible for the Alumni discount if they are due to enrol on the first year of their course starting between 1 September 2023 and 31 August 2024. Students repeating their first year of study are not eligible for the Discount.
  15. If a student fails to complete an eligible course or withdraws from a course which has received the Alumni discount and chooses to retake part or all of the course or undertake another eligible course then the Discount will not be applied again under any circumstances, regardless of the reason for not completing the course.
  16. If a student fails to complete an eligible course and the Alumni discount was not applied at any time before or during the course (i.e., the student did not enrol and did not pay the tuition fees, or where the tuition fees were reimbursed in full) then subject to the eligibility criteria, the Discount may be available should the student choose to retake the course or undertake another eligible course.
  17. Should a student take an agreed, temporary leave of absence from their course, the Alumni discount will still be valid when they return to their course, provided the course or any year of that course is not started again from the beginning.
  18. Should a student withdraw from their course whilst owing a proportion of their tuition fees to NTU, application of the Alumni discount shall be at the discretion of NTU and the Discount may be withdrawn.
  19. International students participating in a foreign exchange programme with NTU are not eligible for the Alumni discount.
  20. The Alumni discount for part-time students will be applied across each year of their course.
  21. The University’s decision in all matters relating to the Alumni discount is final.

*Eligible academic awards when completed in full and with NTU include: BA, BEng, BSc, LLB, BArch, PG Dip, and PG Cert.

Q. How do I apply for the Alumni discount?

If you graduated with a qualifying academic award* from NTU prior to the 2017/18 academic cycle, have met the conditions, and accepted your offer, please send a copy of your graduation certificate and NTU ID number to ntu.scholarships@ntu.ac.uk, with the subject title Alumni discount before you enrol on your new course.

If you graduated with a qualifying academic award* from NTU within the last 5 years, have met the conditions, and accepted your offer, the discount will automatically be applied at enrolment. Please note, the discount may be applied at any point up until the time you have fully enrolled onto your course and is not applied by a certain date in the year.

Q. I received a scholarship or bursary for part of my tuition fees, can I still get the Alumni discount?

If you are eligible to receive the Alumni discount and you are also successful in receiving another scholarship or bursary from NTU, the Discount will be applied to your tuition fee after the scholarship amount has been deducted. If you are awarded any other scholarship, bursary, and/or fee reduction from NTU, the overall amount awarded will not exceed more than half the tuition fee.

Q. I am receiving financial support from an external source for tuition fees (e.g., sponsorship) will I still be eligible for the Alumni discount?

Students who are fully sponsored (tuition fees paid for in full) by their employers or a professional body are not eligible to receive the Alumni discount.

Students who are partly sponsored and who meet the above eligibility criteria for the Discount will have the Discount applied to that part of the fees which are not being paid for elsewhere.

Students that have obtained a scholarship or bursary, which covers 50% or more of their fees, are not eligible for the Discount on any remaining fee.

Q. If I defer entry to a different start date, will the Alumni discount be transferred?

The Alumni discount is not transferable and may not be awarded if you choose to defer your entry to a different start date in a different academic year or if you choose to transfer to a different course at NTU which is not participating in the Discount.

Q. Will any postgraduate programmes be excluded from this scheme?

Q. I’m an international student who came to study at NTU for one semester as part of the undergraduate course I was studying in my home country. Am I eligible for the Alumni discount?

No. To be eligible you need to have graduated with an eligible* academic award from NTU

Q. When will the Alumni discount be applied to my fees? 

The Alumni discount will only be applied once you accept and meet the conditions of your offer and are eligible to enrol on the course. Please note, this can happen at any point up until the time you have fully enrolled onto your course and is not applied by a certain date in the year. If you graduated with a qualifying academic award* from NTU prior to the 2017/18 academic cycle, please send a copy of your graduation certificate and NTU ID number to ntu.scholarships@ntu.ac.uk, with the subject title Alumni discount before you enrol on your new course.

Q. I am in the process of enrolling on my course but have noticed my fees have not been adjusted to reflect the Alumni discount. What should I do?

Who is eligible for the Alumni discount?

You may be eligible to receive the Discount if you are a UK or international student and:

  • have graduated with a qualifying academic award* from NTU and are progressing onto an eligible postgraduate taught, postgraduate research (including PhDs) or professional course at NTU

Or;

  • be a final year NTU undergraduate student due to graduate with a qualifying academic award* and progressing onto an eligible postgraduate taught, postgraduate research (including PhDs), or professional course at NTU.

Who is not eligible for the Alumni discount?

  • All semester or year-long study abroad and exchange students, who haven't been awarded a degree by NTU but have studied at the institution.
  • Students who are fully sponsored (tuition fees paid in full) by their employers or a professional body
  • Students that have obtained a scholarship or bursary, which covers 50% or more of their tuition fees
  • Students studying on courses that are validated by, but not taught by, NTU are not eligible for the Discount, except for Confetti students and students completing online (Wiley only) courses
  • Students who are progressing directly from Nottingham Trent International College, without having previously obtained a Nottingham Trent University award
