NTU Foresight

Fire Fighters Charity Pre and Post-vention Suicide project

Partners: Karen Slade, Jessica Dunn, Rowena Hill, Lindsay Thurston, Rich Pickford, Sally Lopresti

Overview: Colleagues from NTU were commissioned by the Fire Fighters Charity to provide a series of evidence-based tools and resources to support pre and post-vention suicide support. These tools will be used by the Fire Fighters Charity to support their work with current and former staff.

Mapping the Health and Wellbeing Across the Firefighting Career 

Partners: Rowena Hill, Rich Pickford, Ehab Abdelmalak, Samuel Afolayan, Molly Brittain, Lyba Nadeem, Cerys Stock and Rachel Stolz

Overview: Colleagues at NCE worked to develop and deliver on a project for the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) and partners to create an evidence base for a new health and wellbeing strategy for the fire and rescue sector.

National Emergencies Trust Evaluation

Partners: Sally Andrews, Rich Pickford, Rowena Hill, Duncan Guest, Lesley Alborough and Supreet Uppal

Overview: Working with colleagues from Psychology, NCE supported the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) funded evaluation of the first activation of the National Emergencies Trust during the Covid-19 pandemic which raised and distributed almost £100m for affected communities and groups.

Transforming suicide prevention in those under community probation supervision

Partners: Karen Slade, Rosie Kitson-Boyce, Penny Siebert, Jessica Dunn, Grace Harvey, Haya Fakoush and Rich Pickford

Overview: NCE supported colleagues from HM Prison and Probation Service and Psychology to host an event that explored suicide prevention for people under community supervision. Colleagues brought together key stakeholders to explore and develop solutions to some of the key challenges facing the sector.

C19 National Foresight Group

Overview: The C19 National Foresight Group is a cross-government and multi-agency group set up to support the UK response to Covid-19. This group works with NTU to draw on academic insight and expertise throughout its work.

Developing the National Fire Chief Councils Health and Wellbeing Strategic Framework

Overview: Following on from our last project with the National Fire Chiefs Council the team is supporting the creation of a new health and wellbeing framework for the fire and rescue sector.

The National Foresight Group

Overview: The National Foresight Group was designed and developed with NTU to provide cross-government and agency foresight support during disasters and emergencies in the UK. Set up with a remit to help save lives, relieve harm and support communities it brings together key partners and academic expertise, knowledge and networks to make a difference. Building on a range of knowledge brokerage and facilitation techniques the group works with and for partners to understand, explore and develop action that can help to make a difference.
