Event details

NTU Design Industries (NTUDI) are a creative community of students, staff and alumni from our portfolio of product design courses, comprising of:

  • BA (Hons) Furniture and Product Design
  • BA (Hons) Product Design
  • BSc (Hons) Product Design
  • MA Design: Products and Furniture
  • MSc Design: Products and Technology

Each year, a small dedicated committee of final year students shape the Nottingham Trent University Design Industries (NTUDI) brand to reflect their identity and values and design their degree show. This years cohort have proved that they are “adaptive and strive to design in a creative, disciplined, independent and honest way, in the face of any challenge”. With the support of tutors and technicians, together they have produced an ambitious online degree show using new processes and cutting-edge software, during an incredibly challenging time.

This year the degree show is experienced exclusively online through the NTUDI website. This includes a curated virtual exhibition, a design process film, digital course brochures and individual student profiles.

Follow @NTUDI on Instagram to keep up to date with their virtual events and behind the scenes activity.

Product Design Online Degree Show launch
Friday 19 June 2020

The virtual exhibition has been created using state of the art visualisation software. Online audiences can view the students models, images and videos through an interactive 360° virtual experience and a cinematic video tour. This is the first time that students and staff have experimented with this cutting edge software and this will form part of their practice and research in computer aided design in future.

The design process film celebrates the iterative and experimental aspects of design, from ideation and sketching to making and material testing. This has been filmed entirely by the students, including the soundtrack, and also reveals how they have adapted to designing from home.

The digital course brochures are PDF booklets designed to be industry facing. These include an introduction from the students and staff and a professional A-Z of final year design work.

The website includes individual student profiles, showcasing images and videos of final year design work and dissertation research posters. This year, for the first time, it also includes the ‘Conversations On Design’ IGTV series with ten designer interviews. In each episode, a designer speaks honestly to camera from their home studio, about their career and advice on staying creative during the COVID-19 pandemic.
